An Easy Way to Refresh your Happy Hour

April 30, 2020

With warmer, sunnier days ahead I can’t help but dream of all the lovely moments we will be having in our backyard. Being in quarantine for about 2 months allowed us time to really appreciate our home and it’s potential. Angelo has been talking about the grass every other hour & I’ve been talking about all the entertaining ideas we can do in our backyard. I’m a creator of moments – quality time is my love language which comes to no surprise because I run a business where I’m constantly creating special events for mothers & women whether that be styled photoshoots or Mama Gatherings.

The moment the sun peaked out & the grass was looking green we both couldn’t help but want to get outside & enjoy our backyard. Angelo got the yard ready (first mow of the year, it was a big deal). As he was mowing I quickly put together a happy hour spread. We were craving a change of scenery & we would usually resort to a local restaurant but we are finding we are enjoying moments at home just as much – thank you quarantine – but also we really can’t wait to have a margarita at Bartaco on the patio…

Putting together a backyard picnic happy hour is easy! It was 100% worth the little bit of work that we did. We were out there for 2 hours! We all felt refreshed & happy.

Here’s how I put together a backyard picnic happy hour

Grab something to sit/lay on

This was our first time using our Everly Mat Classic by House of Noa and whoa – our picnics this year just got a major upgrade. The mat is super comfortable, it’s made out of this special material where it wipes clean & if the ground is a little wet it won’t soak through to you. Sitting on a damp picnic blanket isn’t the best feeling….

Grab pillows & blankets

Grab some cozy soft things inside to warm up the area. It started to get a little chilly so I laid the blanket on my legs & feet and Layla thought it was an invitation to snuggle – 100% fine by me. Angelo grabbed a pillow right away and rested it beneath his head.

Grab a low table or a chair

Our sunporch is right off our backyard so I grabbed our lightweight sunporch coffee table that I bought at Ikea 2 years ago & used it for our food & drink. Similar table linked here. If you don’t have a lightweight table to easily move around a chair will do too! Keeping the food off from the ground gives you more room to lay & move around.

Put together a food spread

I went to the pantry & fridge to find just about anything to throw together a little spread before dinner. We always have a block of cheese, olives and dried fruit on hand to quickly whip up a cheeseboard everything else was a bonus. Grab anything your family loves – potato chips, pretzels, hummus, fruit. Anything will do! No need to go crazy (although I am totally planning a yummy happy hour spread for our next outdoor happy hour picnic.)

Grab wine, cocktails, tea..

Grab a beverage of your choice! I grabbed a bottle of rosé because I’ve been dreaming of the day where I could enjoy a nice cold glass of wine outside in the sunshine and it was the perfect day for that. The littlest things make me so happy & that was one of them last week. For future picnics I’ll make some iced tea & Angelo mentioned he would make a cocktail pitcher…that sounds fun!

Grab something to do that isn’t your phone

Anyone else flipping through magazines outside? I LOVE it! Grab a magazine, a book, a board game, card game…or simply just sit there listening to the sounds around you & enjoy a restful moment.

Put on a playlist

Angelo is the master of putting the most perfect playlist together for any given moment. This time of year we really enjoy listening to his Alt Playlist on Spotify.   Also shared below 🙂

Already looking forward to the next backyard picnic – I’m hoping it will be on Tuesday to enjoy some tacos & margaritas for Cinco de Mayo! Who else is in?!

As always thank you so much for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to put together a little something special for your next happy hour.
